Description: A total of 82 spacious and quiet rooms that have been carefully decorated in a very contemporary and timeless style to provide a feeling of elegance and comfort. There are 50 Standard, 28 Deluxe and three Executive rooms, and one suite. Standard rooms are completed with independent air conditioning, 32 flat screen television with international channels, Wi Fi and Ipod dock, large desk, safe, free minibar, individual reading lamps and full bathroom with an exclusive welcome pack and full length mirror. Decoration combine modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The restaurant Fond Espana is located in the Modernist dining room originally designed and decorated by Domenech i Montaner. The renown chef Martin Berasategui aims to bring his culinary style to a wider audience with simple, balanced and mouth-watering creations. Fonda Espana offers traditional cuisine that has been brought up to date, is presented imaginatively and uses the best ingredients available. The hotel is of a traditional style but is very unusually decorated in a modernism style that is typical of the 1920s. The Hotel Espana originally opened its doors in 1859 under the name Fonda de Espana, and was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner in the early twentieth century. The work was deservedly recognised by Barcelona City Council in 1904, it was awarded with a Diploma of Honour for "best establishment decorated in the artistic-ornamental style", and has therefore always been considered a jewel in the crown of Catalonian modernism in the city of Barcelona. Hotel Espana's 2010 renovation project has recaptured the spirit that Domenech i Montaner conceived for the hotel. The hotel's modernist spaces have been restored to their original design, while, at the same time, installing the latest in technology, design and comfort. Hotel tres bien situé, chambres simples mais ok pour un court séjour, petit déjeuner basique, bon rapport qualité prix. Avions déjà séjourné dans cet hotel il y a 2 ans et cette fois-ci, nous étions dans une partie de l'hotel beaucoup moins bruyante. [read more]

The site is perfect. Very close to Las Ramblas, to the subway and to the action. The hotel is clean and it complies with the 2 stars. The room was fine and the staff was very helpful. There is only continental breakfast and it is regular. The decoration of the breakfast room is fantastic! The only problem was the shower. In our room, the water was never in a satisfying temperature and was difficult to adjust it. The shower could not hang in the holder, so we always needed to held it in one hand. We do NOT recommend to take a room to the front face. There is a lot of noise during the night. [read more]

Good location near The Ramblas, friendly people at reception - but terrible room: Room (two connecting rooms for four people) with no windows to the outside (just to the hotel-corridor where other people were walking by)! These windows were always left open by the maid, so a break-in would have been very easy. No safe in the room. Door could not be locked from the inside.No window or ventilation in the tiny bathroom either (just an opening in the wall, leading to a broom closet). No hooks or rails to hang a towel, only a tiny shelf to put a toothbrush on.Only the most basic furniture (one chair with smalll table for four people, one cupboard,... [read more]

Esta muy bien conservado a pesar de ser antiguo. Ademas, la tempreatura de la habitacion era perfecta. La cama era muy comoda. Mi unica observacion negativa seria que habrÃa que mejorar la aislacion acÃºstica de las habitaciones ya que se oyen los ruidos de las adyacentes. [read more]
